Adams Okoene, Managing Director of Midwestern Oil & Gas, speaks to Globus Vision about the company’s performance, the diversification of Nigeria’s economy away from the oil and gas sector, and the effects of Nigeria’s Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) once it has been passed, implemented and enforced
ADAMS OKOENE, CEO MIDWESTERN OIL & GAS

A UK chartered engineer and a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Midwestern Oil & Gas Managing Director Adams Okoene is a graduate of the University of Technology, Loughborough. He has more than three decades of upstream experience with Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in both Nigeria and the Netherlands. After holding management positions in both engineering and human resources, he took early retirement from SPDC in 1999, and later joined Midwestern in 2005.

Mr Okoene’s long career has exposed him to various aspects of petroleum engineering, including production operations, maintenance to optimise recovery of reserves, facilities design and construction, and also planning and project management.

His cross-posting to oversee the corporate human resources development and management added another string to his upstream bow. He has attended development programmes and short courses in numerous countries around the world and has also presented technical papers in a number of international conferences. Mr Okoene is also a member of Rotary International and has held appointments with Edo State Government.

Midwestern Oil & Gas commenced operations in 2001 and is focused on harnessing the opportunities in the exploration and production section of the oil industry in Nigeria. In an interview with Globus Vision, Mr Okoene discusses his company’s performance and changes under way in the sector.
