Established by Juan Sordo Madaleno in 1937 and now administered by son Javier and grandsons Javier Jr and Jose Juan, the group has pioneered architecture and design in the country without forgetting its Mexican roots and traditions.
“We try to evolve architecture in Mexico while maintaining the values of our culture so that they may live on through history and accompany our people,” remarks Javier Sordo Madaleno, group President.
Throughout its 75-year history, Grupo Sordo Madaleno has created some of the country’s most emblematic buildings. In fact, it was founder Juan Sordo Madaleno himself that introduced Mexico’s very first shopping centres – Plaza Universidad and Plaza Satelite – in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Nevertheless, the founder’s son believes that the company is now living its most exciting moment. “Right now we are working on the architecture and interior design of five hotels in Mexico. We are also involved in various mixed-use projects, where we will combine offices, shops and flats. I would go as far as to say we are experiencing one of the most successful phases in our history because we have never had so many interesting projects on the go at once,” says Mr Sordo.
