TGAIS–COMESA Rwanda summit topics and keynote speaker announced

Article - July 5, 2016

The Global African Investment Summit COMESA and Government of Rwanda (TGAIS–COMESA Rwanda) have launched their eagerly awaited summit programme on July 4, 2016. The inaugural event will be taking place at the Kigali Convention Centre in Rwanda’s capital on September 5-6, 2016.

As attitudes towards the African continent shift, the number of investors looking towards the region is growing steadily. The varied natural resources, ever-growing population, and countries taking strides to ensure that they are considered internationally investable are making Africa an attractive option. This was clearly demonstrated in 2015 when private equity fund Helios Partners raised an African fund worth more than $1 billion, it was closely followed by its rival Abraaj, which raised a fund of $1.3 billion.

The summit, which will be attended by African politicians, selected high-net-worth investors and business leaders, will cover various topics including: how investment is spearheading Africa’s transformation, the pros and cons of the Tripartite Free Trade Area (TFTA), digitalization, agricultural development and growth, and intra-regional trade.

The keynote, which will be focused on the Smart Africa initiative and how African countries are coming together and transforming ICT and knowledge-driven economies to promote growth across the continent, will be given by Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda.

Paul Sinclair, Director of The Global African Investment Summit, comments: “The summit encourages regional trade and investment by giving African governments, business leaders and visionaries the opportunity to present their projects and set up partnerships to new investment pools, operators and partners. The commitment and support from heads of state, ministers and private sector business, means that without a doubt we have a summit that can easily be considered a true game changer.”
